| The original was woven in Flanders in the late 15th century. This remarkable representation of the grape gathering and the wine press, now hangs in the Musee de Moyan Age (Cluny) in Paris. In the Middle Ages tapestries were woven with dramatic themes and were almost exclusively intended for nobility and religious leaders. Sometimes however, they depicted scenes from everyday life as demonstrated in Les Vendanges, where the Lord and Lady are shown overseeing the grape harvest and the pressing of the grapes. The tapestry is set against a "mille fleur" (thousand flower) background, a popular design feature in many tapestries of the middle ages. Woven in France of 77% wool and 20% cotton in a very fine stitch. | ||||||||||||||||
